Learning & More
KIPP Believe College Prep is committed to doing whatever it takes to prepare our students to succeed in our nation’s top high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond. We work to build a critical consciousness in students that will inspire them to become the future leaders of a rebuilt New Orleans. The keys to our success are more time on task, hard work, and going above and beyond for our students.
More time
KIPP Believe students attend school until 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, alternating Saturdays, and three weeks in the summer. They spend 60% more time learning than their peers in typical public schools. That equals over two extra years of instruction by the time they finish eighth grade. The extra time allows teachers to focus on getting all students above grade level and meeting individual needs. Students won't be worried about passing the LEAP, but they'll want to make sure they score Advanced on every section.
Supporting Students
Teachers give out their cell phone numbers so that students can call in the evenings for homework help when they need it. Parents also have access to every teacher to check on their student's progress or share concerns. As a staff, we commit to doing whatever it takes for our students to learn. Students that are struggling receive extra one-on-one instruction, while students that are excelling are given additional challenges and content to continue their growth.
Above and Beyond
KIPP Believe aims to prove the possible in education. We go above and beyond to provide students with the opportunities and experiences that will inspire their academics for years to come. Here are just a few of the ways that we go above and beyond to be an amazing school for our students:
- Year End Trips: At the conclusion of each school year, every student that has worked hard, completed assignments, and been leaders on campus earns a year-end trip that brings their learning to life. In fifth grade, students study American History all year. At the conclusion of fifth grade, we take students to Washington D.C. for six days to see our nation's capital and let lawmakers know about the issues that concern us.
- Extra-Curricular Activities: Students have the opportunity to excel in any of four extra-curricular activities. We aim to have band, art, drama, and athletics. By seventh grade, students are able to select their own focus so they can pursue their strengths and passions. The longer school day allows us to devote time to these activities and help students build skills, confidence, and their identity as musicians, artists, actors, and athletes.
- Social Activists: The school operates with a focus on social justice in everything we do. Our mission is not just to create amazing students, but to empower our students to be the change they wish to see in the world. A large portion of our Saturday school program focuses on community-service projects and working to build a better New Orleans. By eighth grade, our students identify their own issues they feel strongly about and spend time on Saturdays working on the social issue they are passionate about.
A Track Record of Success

- KIPP DC: KEY Academy (Washington, DC) is the highest performing middle school in the District of Columbia.
- KIPP Academy New York’s (Bronx, NY) nationally acclaimed 145-piece String & Rhythm Orchestra debuted at Carnegie Hall in December 2002.
