KIPP BELIEVE

KIPP – the Knowledge Is Power Program.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” — Margaret Mead

In July, 2006, KIPP BELIEVE College Prep began to prove the possible in education with a founding team of dynamic teachers serving 90 fifth-grade students. This group of 90 fifth graders are known as the “Class of 2014,” the year they will attend college. The school will add a grade level each year. By July 2009, we will have over 320 students in fifth through eighth grade on the road to college.

Students of KIPP BELIEVE College Prep are empowered with the academic and social skills needed to succeed in the nation's top high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond. We cultivate a sense of social responsibility in scholars to become the future leaders of a rebuilt New Orleans.

We Believe that there are no shortcuts to academic success. Students attend classes from 7:25 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., alternating Saturdays, and in the summer. They complete up to two hours of homework every night, and learn to succeed at the highest levels. Scholars are also given the opportunity to excel in extra-curricular activities and to take their learning into the community.

We Believe that as educators we must do whatever it takes to support our students, their families, and our community. We work as a team to overcome any challenges we face and to continually push ourselves to improve our instruction. Teachers are available in the evenings via cell phone for homework help or parent concerns. We meet all students where they are at, and then provide the instruction and support to ensure they reach their full potential. As a staff, we go the distance for our students.

We Believe in New Orleans. We celebrate the history and culture of the city while capitalizing on an opportunity to redefine education here by being a model for academic achievement. We partner with community organizations, businesses, and stakeholders. Together we are building a new New Orleans that protects the culture of the city while blazing a new path for excellence in education.

KIPP Believe is now accepting applications for students entering 5th grade in the 2007-08 school year. Click here for more information.
